East Asian histiory - Essay Example The two events occurred almost at the same time, and, therefore; it will be easier to connect the two historical events with relative ease. My story will focus on Mr. Haro Aoki who is an experienced fighter jet pilot. He is of Japanese descent. He is married to a South Korean woman whom he met during the colonial occupation of the Korean peninsula by the Empire of Japan. During this occupation, the Korean area was regarded as a sphere of influence for the Japanese and as a result a lot of their citizens went to settle there and even married and started families with the locals; Mr. Aoki was no exception. When the Second World War breaks out, he is called upon by the air force to serve his nation. He is among the pilots that participated in the bombing of Pearl Harbor. However, as the war rages on and there are disturbances in the Korean empire, he is torn between remaining in Japan to fight for his mother country and going back to fight for his wife’s native land. It is a story of loyalty and love delving into whether Aoki should stay and fight along his fellow Japanese in the war or go back and get involved in t he Korean War in order to secure the safety of his wife and that of his family. The tale transpires on a sunny morning when Mr. Aoki who had just come from Japan to Korea to see his wife, Mrs. Aoki. They had been married for the past six months and were expecting their first born child within the next three months. Mr. Aoki was excited and had spent the past few days going over possible names for his unborn child. However, on this particular morning, he woke up with a bad feeling in his gut. The war rhetoric over the past few days had gotten much louder. When he left Japan for Korea, tensions were rising and there was a flurry of activities in the barracks as the nation made war preparations. The tensions were caused by reports that the Japanese had committed unfathomable crimes and atrocities in China, especially in the Nanjing Massacre. This had
